The project ECHIM is a project funded by the European Union through the Programme of Community Action in the Field of Public Health (2003-2008). ECHIM is a three-year project to develop and implement health indicators and health monitoring in the EU and all EU Member States. It continues the work of the ECHI-1 and ECHI-2 projects. The ECHIM core group has 23 members from different countries. ECHIM acts also as the scientific secretariat of the Working Party Indicators comprising members from all EU Member States, leaders of the other 5 working parties, project leaders of some horizontal projects, and representatives from Eurostat, OECD and WHO. Working Party Indicators is also an effort to horizontally co-ordinate activities of Strand I of the EU Public Health programme. It should ensure that indicator development is in line with the needs of the European health information and knowledge system and that prerequisites for indicator implementation are created. | The products ECHIM short list a priority list of indicators selected by EU experts for starting the collection and presentation of actual data and contents, and to improve the comparability of data between members states. This list contains the documentation sheets produced by the ECHIM project. ECHIM comprehensive lists the ECHI-2 long list of indicators, and a list of EC projects involved in indicator development (after ECHI-2 period, i.e. after 2003) Indicators on the web hyperlinks to the websites of EC projects and organizations (WHO, OECD and Eurostat) involved in health indicator development, when possible deep linking to indicator definitions. International Compendium of Health Indicators part two (ICHI-2) hyperlink to the ICHI-2 website updated until 2005, containing all the ECHI-2 indicators and a large selection of indicators from the WHO, Eurostat and the OECD (background info). ECHIM project reports hyperlinks to all relevant reports produced by the ECHIM project. These information sheets should be used as a working tool for the ECHIM group and can also be used as a basis for reports to the commission and other stakeholders. They contain information about the definition of the indicator, the calculation, the additional concepts, relevant dimensions, prefered data sources, the rational, data availability, quality and periodicity, references and work to do. Eventually every short list indicator should have one documentation sheet filled out.
